How many people can travel in the van?

The maximum carrying capacity is 5. However there are only two lap belts in the rear seat so the fifth passenger would be travelling without a belt. The rear facing buddy seat does not have a belt and is not suitable for use whilst the vehicle is in motion.

What’s it like to drive?

Driving a 40 or 50 year old vehicle is fun and you will soon get used to how our vans perform. They are much slower than today’s modern vehicles and you need to keep more space in front of you and you will need a bigger gap in the traffic when you are joining a main road. Basically take your time, enjoy the scenery and don’t forget to wave to fellow VW drivers!

What if I break down?

Full 24 hour emergency breakdown cover is included. Should you break down please call us first at  Hilltop Classics. We can then advise you on the best course of action. We can also talk through the problem with the patrolman. There are a number of spares on board which can be used to get you going again. Should you need to call the us or the breakdown service out as a result of something you have done eg left the lights on and flattened the battery or locked the keys in the van, we will make a charge of £75 to cover that callout.

How long will it take to pick up the van?

You should allow 30 to 45 minutes for the handover and loading up. This will give us time to show you the van and explain where everything is and how it works.

How long does the leisure battery last?

All the interior lights, heater, radio and fridge work of the leisure battery. The fridge takes the greatest amount of power so the length of time the battery lasts is dependent on how hard the fridge is working.

Try to park with the driver’s side in the shade and keep the top vents open in hot weather. If the voltage drops below 10 volts the fridge will run on reduced power and any frozen food may defrost, so keep an eye on the voltmeter and hook up to the mains to charge up.

What if I have a puncture?

There is also a small compressor on board should you need to top up the air. At the earliest opportunity please get the puncture repaired at the nearest tyre centre. You are responsible for any costs incurred.
